District in Charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao announced that the bridge connecting Sulthan Bathery to Tannirbhavi across the Gurupura river will be ready by August or September 2026. The project aims to strengthen social and economic integration between coastal settlements and the mainland urban area of Mangaluru.
Project Overview
During his visit to inspect the construction site, Rao emphasized the significance of the bridge for local communities. The structure will provide a direct link, reducing travel time and improving accessibility for residents in the coastal belt. This development is expected to facilitate smoother movement of goods and people, thereby enhancing trade and daily commute.
Economic and Social Impact
The bridge is anticipated to boost the local economy by connecting fishing villages and other coastal settlements with Mangaluru's commercial hubs. It will also improve access to healthcare, education, and other essential services. Minister Rao highlighted that the project aligns with the state's infrastructure development goals.
Construction is progressing on schedule, with the completion timeline set for late monsoon season. The bridge will feature modern engineering standards to ensure durability and safety. Once operational, it will serve as a vital link for thousands of commuters daily.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance connectivity in Karnataka's coastal region, promoting balanced regional growth. The government has allocated adequate funds to ensure timely completion without compromising quality.
