A Zurich-bound Swiss International Air Lines flight was forced to abort its take-off at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday due to a technical issue. The aircraft, an Airbus A340, was preparing for departure when the pilot detected a problem and decided to halt the take-off procedure.
Incident Details
The flight, designated LX-147, was scheduled to depart for Zurich, Switzerland, with around 200 passengers on board. According to airport officials, the pilot noticed an anomaly in one of the engines during the take-off roll and immediately applied the brakes, bringing the aircraft to a safe stop on the runway.
Passenger Safety First
Following the aborted take-off, the aircraft was towed to a remote bay for inspection. Passengers were deplaned and taken to the terminal, where they were provided with refreshments. Swiss International Air Lines arranged for an alternate aircraft to operate the delayed flight.
An airline spokesperson stated, "The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority. The decision to abort take-off was taken as a precautionary measure after a technical indication. We apologize for the inconvenience caused."
The incident caused a temporary disruption to airport operations, but normalcy was restored shortly after. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the technical glitch.
Passengers expressed relief that the situation was handled professionally. One passenger said, "We felt a sudden deceleration, but the crew kept us informed throughout. We are grateful for their prompt action."
