Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense reported on Tuesday that it detected 29 sorties of Chinese military aircraft, along with six naval vessels and two other ships, operating around the island's territory. The activity took place between 6 a.m. on Monday and 6 a.m. on Tuesday, according to official statements.
Among the aircraft detected were 14 that crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, which serves as an unofficial boundary. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) has been increasing its military presence in the region, with regular patrols and exercises.
Taiwan's defense ministry stated that it monitored the situation closely and deployed appropriate responses, including the use of air defense systems and naval assets. The ministry also reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region.
This latest detection comes amid ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with Beijing viewing the self-ruled island as part of its territory. China has repeatedly warned against any moves toward independence, while Taiwan has called for maintaining the status quo.
