Teen Drowns, Woman Missing in Ganga at Begusarai Ghat

A tragic incident occurred at Simaria Ghat under Chakia police station area in Begusarai district on Saturday, where a 17-year-old girl, Sundari Devi alias Muskan, drowned, and a 24-year-old woman, Mannu Devi, is feared drowned after being swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Ganga river. Both victims were relatives and residents of a village under Bishnupur police station area in Darbhanga district.

Incident Details

According to Lakshman Mahto, a relative of the victims, the incident took place early in the morning. He stated that several relatives and fellow villagers had arrived at Simaria Ghat to take a holy dip in the Ganga river following the demise of his mother 15 days ago at their village in Darbhanga. While they were bathing, it started raining and a strong wind began blowing. Sundari and Mannu ventured into the river and were swept away by the current.

Rescue Efforts

Local drivers later recovered the body of Sundari Devi from the water. However, the search for Mannu Devi's body continued until the afternoon. Authorities have been alerted, and rescue operations are ongoing.
