Teen swept away at Marina Beach while saving brother

A 16-year-old boy was swept away by waves while rescuing his younger brother at Marina Beach in Chennai on Friday evening. Firefighters continued search operations on Saturday.

Incident Details

Police identified the missing teenager as Sudharsan, a resident of Mettu Street in Kovilpathagai, Avadi. He had recently completed his Class XI examinations. On Friday, he visited Marina Beach with his brother Kamalesh, 15, mother Devaki, 43, and other family members.

While the siblings were bathing in the sea, Kamalesh was caught in strong waves. Noticing this, Sudharsan rushed to rescue him and managed to pull his brother to safety. However, Sudharsan was dragged into the sea by the waves.

Search Operation

Family members searched for the teenager but could not trace him, after which they alerted the Marina police. Fire and rescue services personnel launched a search operation along the shoreline and in the sea. Police said the search continued on Saturday as the boy remained untraced.

Appeal to Chief Minister

Devaki, the mother of the missing boy, appealed to Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to take steps to trace her son.
