Chinese Daughter's Plea Saves Father from Death After Mother's Murder
Teen's letter saves father from death sentence in China

A heartbreaking family tragedy in China has taken an unexpected turn after a teenage daughter's emotional plea saved her father from the death penalty. The case involves a 36-year-old man named Yang who was convicted of murdering his wife by electrocution while she showered.

Turbulent Marriage Ends in Tragedy

The couple married in 2010, but their relationship quickly deteriorated into constant conflict. Between 2014 and 2017, they actually divorced but later reconciled, though the remarriage failed to bring peace. According to court documents, Yang claimed that constant conflicts with his wife Yin pushed him to his breaking point.

The situation was complicated by Yin's difficult relationship with Yang's mother and his suspicions that she was having an affair. Their arguments became so intense that Yang once visited a hospital to check his mental state. During this consultation, the doctor actually called Yin and asked her to provide emotional support to her husband.

Instead of offering comfort, Yin reportedly mocked her husband, telling him sarcastically: "If you really want to die, find a quiet corner to die." Yang claimed this cruel remark triggered his plan to kill her.

The Fatal Incident and Aftermath

In March 2023, Yang carried out his deadly plan by electrifying a metal tube on the water heater while Yin was taking a shower. After she died from the electrocution, he placed her body on their bed and surrendered to authorities the next morning.

The case gained national attention when a Hebei court publicly released its judgment in early November. Prosecutors had proposed a suspended death sentence, but the court ultimately chose a lighter punishment to show what they described as "the warmth of the judicial authorities."

Daughter's Emotional Plea Changes Everything

The most dramatic turn in the case came from Yang's 14-year-old daughter, who wrote a heartfelt letter to the court asking for leniency for her father. "I know my father has made a mistake. But, he has always been a kind-hearted person, and he performs well at home," the teenager wrote, as quoted by the South China Morning Post.

She continued with an emotional appeal: "I hope he can come back home to help with me and my brother's growth." The couple's two children - the 14-year-old daughter and a two-year-old son - are now being cared for by Yang's parents.

The court acknowledged the daughter's plea in their ruling statement, noting: "After Yang finishes serving the jail sentence, the two children will probably have grown up and set up their own families. But, this life sentence at least could give them some mental comfort during their long-time waiting for their father."

The Hebei court ultimately sentenced Yang to life in prison instead of death, marking a significant reduction in punishment influenced by his daughter's intervention. The case has sparked widespread debate across Chinese social media about justice, family relationships, and the appropriate punishment for domestic violence cases.
