Telangana petrol demand surges 6.8% in April 2026, diesel leads consumption
Telangana petrol demand surges 6.8% in April 2026

The latest industry consumption review released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) reveals that Telangana's petroleum consumption patterns continue to be dominated by diesel, while petrol demand remains robust due to rising personal mobility and vehicle ownership.

Petrol and Diesel Trends

Petrol demand in Telangana registered a stronger growth of 6.8% in April 2026 compared to the same period last year. The report attributes this increase to higher passenger vehicle and two-wheeler sales, marriage-season travel, and expanding private mobility. In the same period, diesel consumption grew by 3.5%, matching the national average.

Nationally, the country recorded a 12.2% growth in passenger vehicle sales and a 13% rise in two-wheeler sales during April. These trends are especially visible in urbanized states such as Telangana, where private vehicle ownership has expanded rapidly over the past decade.

LPG Consumption Decline

LPG consumption witnessed a sharp contraction nationally. In Telangana, LPG consumption decreased by 4% between April 2023 and April 2026.

PPAC observed that road freight movement, mining, and urban development projects remained key drivers of diesel demand across India. E-way bill generation, which reflects transport activity, rose 12% year-on-year during April 2026, indicating sustained logistics movement.

Industry observers note that Telangana's fuel consumption profile closely mirrors national trends due to strong dependence on road-based transport, increasing commuter traffic, and expanding e-commerce and logistics operations. Hyderabad's growing metropolitan region has also contributed to sustained petrol demand through higher passenger vehicle and two-wheeler ownership.
