Indore: Three men were killed after they became trapped beneath heavy sacks of onions when a mini-truck overturned in Dewas district late Saturday night. Two other individuals, including the driver, sustained serious injuries in the incident.
Accident Details
The accident occurred near Berkhedi Fata close to Chaubara Dhara under Piplarawa police station limits. According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle lost balance while executing a U-turn. ASP Jayveer Bhadoriya stated that the labourers were seated at the rear of the mini-truck alongside sacks of onions. When the vehicle overturned, the workers were trapped beneath the heavy sacks.
Rescue Operation
Upon receiving information, Piplarawan police launched a rescue operation with assistance from local residents. The rescue efforts continued throughout the night as teams worked diligently to extricate those trapped under the overturned vehicle and the onion sacks. The injured labourers were promptly transported to the government hospital in Sonkatch for medical treatment. However, three workers were declared dead by doctors upon arrival at the hospital.
Victims and Injuries
The deceased have been identified as Omprakash Malviya, Akash Bagania, and Vijay Malviya, all residents of Balon village. Their bodies have been kept at the Sonkatch Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. Police have completed the panchnama of the deceased. The two injured persons are the truck driver and the cleaner, who have been admitted to a private hospital for further treatment.
Cause of Accident
Preliminary investigation suggests that the mini-truck overturned around 12:30 am after the driver allegedly lost control while negotiating a turn. Police suspect that the driver may have dozed off due to fatigue, leading to the accident. Further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
