Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has achieved the 'Exemplar' status among landlocked states in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2025 rankings released by the central government. This marks a significant improvement from its previous 'Achiever' category ranking over the past three years, an official spokesperson confirmed.
Rankings Announced at LEAPS 2025
The rankings were unveiled by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry during the LEAPS 2025 awards ceremony held at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal presented the award, which was received on behalf of the state by Shashank Chaudhary.
Understanding LEADS
LEADS is a national benchmarking exercise launched in 2018 to assess the logistics performance of states and Union Territories. States are evaluated on parameters such as logistics infrastructure, services, regulatory efficiency, and operational performance.
UP's Progress from Achiever to Exemplar
Officials noted that Uttar Pradesh had been ranked in the 'Achiever' category from 2022 to 2024. The move to the highest 'Exemplar' category is attributed to substantial improvements in logistics infrastructure, connectivity, and industrial growth. According to Invest UP officials, the UP Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022 has played a pivotal role in strengthening warehousing, cold-chain, and freight infrastructure across the state.
Key Initiatives Driving Improvement
- City Logistics Masterplans: The state government has prepared city logistics masterplans under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan to enhance freight movement, reduce transportation costs, and bolster last-mile connectivity.
- Private Investment and PPP Models: Uttar Pradesh is actively promoting private investment and public-private partnership models in logistics parks, warehousing facilities, and rural storage infrastructure.
- Development of Logistics Hubs: Logistics hubs are being developed near expressways, freight corridors, and upcoming airports to improve supply chain efficiency and industrial connectivity.
These efforts have collectively contributed to the state's upgraded status, reflecting its commitment to becoming a logistics-friendly destination.
