The Uttar Pradesh government has issued directives to establish integrated flood control rooms in all 18 divisions of the state by May 31, with operations commencing from June 1. These control rooms will function round-the-clock from June 15 to October 15 to monitor flood conditions and affected areas, ensuring real-time tracking of water levels and rapid response during disasters.
Embankment Security and Protection Projects
According to the state irrigation and water resources department, embankments spanning approximately 4,000 kilometers have been secured so far. Concurrently, work is underway on 300 projects aimed at protecting villages and agricultural land situated along rivers and drains from erosion. These initiatives are scheduled for completion by June 15, as stated by the department.
Focus on Drainage Systems
Special attention is being given to the drainage system to address waterlogging in both urban and rural areas. Desilting work covering over 16,000 kilometers of drains has been completed by March 2026. Cleaning operations at all remaining sensitive locations will be finished before the onset of the monsoon season. This proactive measure will facilitate smooth water drainage during heavy rainfall, thereby safeguarding crops, villages, and residential areas from flooding.
