Venezuelan Acting President to Visit India for Bilateral Talks

Delcy Eloina Rodriguez Gomez, the Acting President of Venezuela, is set to embark on a Working Visit to India from June 3 to June 7, 2026. The visit, originally planned for participation in the International Big Cat Alliance Summit on June 1 (which has been deferred), will now focus on strengthening bilateral ties across multiple sectors. The announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

High-Level Delegation to Accompany Acting President

Acting President Rodriguez will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, Communication and Information, and Transportation. This marks her sixth visit to India, having previously visited as Foreign Minister in 2015 and as Vice President in 2019, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Bilateral Discussions with Prime Minister Modi

During the visit, Acting President Rodriguez will hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The talks are expected to cover the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations, with a focus on exploring avenues for further cooperation in areas such as energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, health care, transportation, and renewable energy, according to the MEA statement.

Site Visits to Explore Collaboration Opportunities

As part of the programme, the Venezuelan delegation will visit several sites connected with the energy, pharmaceutical, and auto sectors. These visits aim to provide insights into India's technological and industrial capabilities and to explore opportunities for collaboration. India has been an important partner for Venezuela in energy and investment, with Indian Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) making significant investments in Venezuela's energy sector. They are keen to explore opportunities for further enhancing their presence.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

India and Venezuela share warm and friendly relations, underpinned by cooperation in the energy sector, trade, and a shared commitment to the Global South. The visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral ties and deepen engagement between the two countries across diverse sectors, as per the MEA statement.

Official Spokesperson's Remarks

Earlier in the day, Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, confirmed the visit details. He stated that the Acting President would be accompanied by several ministers, including those of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, Communication and Information, and Transportation. He also noted that the International Big Cats Alliance summit, originally scheduled for June 1, has been deferred.
