Kolkata: Visva-Bharati University has announced that it will conduct guided heritage walks six days a week starting Monday, in response to the overwhelming demand from tourists. The initiative aims to provide visitors with a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical significance of Santiniketan's core heritage zone.
Expansion of Heritage Walk Schedule
Initially, the university introduced guided walking tours in five slots within the asrama area of Santiniketan, exclusively on Sundays, around August. Due to positive reception, the schedule was expanded to four days, including Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday in addition to Sunday. Now, the university has further increased the frequency to six days a week.
New Timings and Slots
Visva-Bharati Public Relations Officer Atig Ghosh stated, “From now on, heritage walks will be held on Monday and Tuesday along with Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. On Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, the tours will be conducted in one slot between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm. On Wednesday, there will be three slots starting from 11 am. On Sunday, there will be five slots starting from 10 am. Thursday will remain a holiday.”
Ticket Availability and Visitor Information
Tickets for these heritage walks can be obtained at the Rabindra-Bhavana ticket counter. Visitors are encouraged to plan their visits accordingly, taking note of the specific timings for each day. The guided walks offer an immersive experience, allowing tourists to explore the rich heritage of Santiniketan, including its architecture, art, and the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore.
This expansion is expected to accommodate the growing number of tourists and provide them with a structured and informative tour of the heritage zone. The university hopes that this initiative will enhance the cultural tourism experience in Santiniketan.
