West Bengal has handed over 142.8 acres of land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing along the India-Bangladesh border, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari announced on Thursday. The move is part of a broader initiative by the state government to facilitate the construction of border infrastructure aimed at enhancing national security.

The handover follows a decision taken during the first cabinet meeting of the newly elected BJP government on May 11. In that meeting, the cabinet resolved to transfer a total of 600 acres of land within 45 days for border fencing and related infrastructure projects.
