A tragic road accident in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district claimed the lives of a woman and her teenage daughter, while leaving 17 others injured on Tuesday. The incident occurred when a speeding minibus overturned after colliding with a motorcycle near the village of Bistan.

Details of the Accident

The minibus was traveling from Bistan to Khargone city when it lost control and hit a motorcycle carrying a woman and her daughter. The impact caused the minibus to overturn, trapping several passengers inside. Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted the police and ambulance services.

The deceased were identified as 40-year-old Sunita Devi and her 16-year-old daughter Priya. They were pronounced dead on arrival at the district hospital. The injured include 12 men and 5 women, all of whom were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.

Police Investigation

Police officials stated that the minibus driver fled the scene after the accident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and efforts are underway to apprehend the driver. Preliminary investigations suggest that overspeeding may have been a contributing factor.

“We are investigating the exact cause of the accident. The driver will be arrested soon,” said a senior police officer from Khargone.

Local politicians and community leaders expressed their condolences to the bereaved family. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister expressed grief over the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the family of each deceased and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.
