RAIPUR: A tragic incident occurred in the forest area of Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Tuesday morning, where a woman lost her life and her son-in-law sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a swarm of honeybees. The victims were collecting forest produce in the jungle region of Palgaon village, located in the Dugli area.
Details of the Incident
Ramwati Netam, along with her relative, had ventured into the forest to collect sarai seeds and other forest products. Suddenly, a large swarm of bees attacked them. According to local residents, the two panicked and attempted to flee in different directions, but the bees relentlessly stung them multiple times.
Attack and Rescue
The victims suffered numerous stings and collapsed in the forest. Family members and other villagers quickly rushed them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Ramwati Netam succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her son-in-law, who was also severely injured, is currently admitted to the hospital. Doctors have reported that his condition is stable and he is recovering.
Aftermath and Community Response
The police conducted postmortem procedures and handed over the woman's body to her family for the last rites. The incident has sent shockwaves through the village. Residents have noted that bee swarms have become increasingly aggressive in forested areas during the peak summer season. Many villagers rely on the forest for daily activities such as collecting sarai seeds, tendu leaves, and firewood, forcing them to venture deep into wooded areas despite the growing risks from wild animals, insects, and extreme heat.
