A 20-year-old youth from Ranchi died while bathing at Bhairvi Jalashaya dam under Rajrappa police station limits on Wednesday, police said. The deceased was identified as Hamid Ansari, a resident of Doranda.

Rajrappa police station in-charge Krishna Kumar on Thursday stated that Ansari had come to the dam to enjoy a fun dip when he slipped into deep waters. “Locals retrieved him and sent him to a hospital, but he was declared brought dead,” Kumar said.
Growing popularity of Bhairvi dam
The spillway of Bhairvi dam, which resembles a waterfall during discharge, has turned into a major attraction, drawing large crowds. Gola block pramukh Jaleshwar Mahto noted that the site is witnessing a huge number of visitors. “Some youths are performing stunts by jumping from a height, which is dangerous,” he said, adding that he has asked block officials to take steps to prevent such activities.
Administration response
Ramgarh deputy commissioner Rituraj said the administration has taken cognisance of the growing footfall. “Circle officers in Gola and Dulmi have been directed to take steps to avoid any kind of untoward incidents. Those who violate safety guidelines will face action,” he said.
Despite the tragedy, visitors continue to flock to the site. Binod Chaudhary from Chitarpur, who visited with his family, described the place as “fantastic to have fun in water” and urged that it be developed as a tourist destination.
Bhairvi dam as a summer hotspot
Bhairvi Jalashaya dam, also known as Sotai dam in Hohad village, has now joined Rajrappa temple and Patratu Lake Resort as a key summer hotspot in the district. The administration is taking measures to ensure safety while the site remains popular among tourists.
