Ahmedabad Swelters Under Unseasonal Heat Surge
As the lingering influence of the Western Disturbance dissipates, residents of Ahmedabad are grappling with a significant rise in temperatures. On Saturday, the city witnessed the mercury climbing to 34.3°C, which is two degrees above the typical seasonal average for this time of year.
Nighttime Offers Little Relief
The discomfort extended into the night, with minimum temperatures settling at a balmy 20.3°C. This reading is nearly five degrees higher than what Amdavadis usually expect during the month of February, making for restless evenings.
IMD Forecasts Persistent Warmth
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this heat is not a fleeting phenomenon. Sunday is anticipated to mirror Saturday's warmth, maintaining elevated temperatures across the region. IMD data indicates that the mean maximum and minimum temperatures for February in Ahmedabad are 31°C and 14.6°C, respectively, highlighting the current deviation.
Statewide Heatwave Conditions
The heatwave has gripped Gujarat extensively. Rajkot emerged as the state's hotspot, recording a high of 35.3°C. In contrast, Naliya managed to stay relatively cool, registering the lowest minimum temperature at 15.2°C.
Brief Respite on the Horizon
While the afternoon heat is expected to persist for the next week under the influence of north-westerly winds, there is a silver lining for those missing the winter chill. Starting Monday, a gentle dip of 2-3 degrees in night temperatures is forecasted for a three-day period. This temporary cooling offers a brief, cooler conclusion to the month, providing some relief from the unseasonal warmth.
