Ahmedabad Welcomes Back Summer with Sudden Temperature Spike
After enjoying nearly a month of unseasonably cool and rainy conditions, the city of Ahmedabad was abruptly thrust back into summer's embrace on Saturday. The mercury soared to a maximum of 40.2°C, which is 0.8 degrees higher than the normal temperature expected for this time of year. This marked the first time the city has experienced such intense heat since March 11, exactly one month prior, when temperatures peaked at 41.2°C.
Residents Feel the Heat More Intensely After Cool Fortnight
The sudden return of high temperatures caught many residents off guard, with the heat feeling particularly sharp following the extended period of milder weather. Shreya Patel, a resident of the Satellite area, shared her experience: "We had grown accustomed to cooler temperatures for almost two weeks, so when the heat returned, it felt more oppressive than usual. I decided to stay indoors as much as possible and relied on coconut water and lemonade to stay hydrated. What made it especially uncomfortable was that the air didn't cool down even as evening approached."
IMD Forecasts Gradual Temperature Rise Across Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather predictions indicating that Ahmedabad can expect similar conditions on Sunday, with maximum temperatures hovering around 40°C. More concerning is the forecast for the following two days, which anticipates a gradual increase of 2 to 3 degrees. After this period, no significant changes are expected in the temperature pattern.
Looking further ahead, the IMD has projected hot and humid conditions for the coastal regions of Gujarat from April 11 to 17. On Saturday, while maximum temperatures climbed, the minimum temperature in Ahmedabad was recorded at 21.9°C, which is 1.9 degrees lower than normal. Meteorological patterns show a Western Disturbance persisting as a cyclonic circulation in north India, accompanied by a trough.
Multiple Gujarat Cities Experience Similar Heat Conditions
Ahmedabad was not alone in facing the summer heat resurgence. Several other cities and towns across Gujarat recorded maximum temperatures exceeding 40°C. Rajkot experienced the highest temperature in the region at 41.8°C. Surendranagar and Amreli both registered temperatures of 40.3°C, while Kandla and Keshod reached exactly 40°C.
The abrupt transition from cool, rainy weather to intense summer heat has prompted health advisories from local authorities, urging residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Experts recommend staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure during peak hours, and using appropriate cooling measures indoors.
