Ahmedabad Sees Temperature Dip as Winds Shift, Mercury to Drop Further
Ahmedabad temperatures drop, colder days ahead

A noticeable chill has returned to the air in Ahmedabad and across Gujarat, thanks to a significant shift in wind patterns. The change in wind direction from easterly to northeasterly has led to a marked drop in night-time temperatures, bringing a welcome respite from the recent warmth and signaling the onset of cooler days.

Mercury Takes a Tumble Across the State

According to the latest data from the Meteorological Department, Ahmedabad recorded a minimum temperature of 15.8 degrees Celsius, which is 0.6 degrees above the normal for this time of year. However, the daytime maximum saw a more substantial deviation, settling at 28.8°C, which is a significant 2.1 degrees below the normal maximum. This dip in both minimum and maximum readings indicates a broader cooling trend affecting the region.

IMD Forecast Predicts a Colder Week Ahead

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that this cooling trend is set to continue. The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely to drop further, potentially reaching around 15°C on Sunday. More importantly, the weather office predicts that temperatures will remain in this cooler range for the next seven days, suggesting a sustained period of pleasant winter weather.

Other Cities Feel the Chill

The cold wave is not confined to Ahmedabad alone. Several other cities and towns in Gujarat recorded even lower temperatures. The list of coldest places in the state on this day was led by Naliya, which shivered at 12.6°C. It was closely followed by Kandla and the state capital, Gandhinagar, both recording 13.2°C. Other notable minimums included:

  • Deesa: 13.8°C
  • Vadodara: 14.0°C
  • Amreli: 15.0°C

This widespread drop highlights the regional impact of the changing weather system.

The primary driver behind this sudden temperature change is the shift in wind direction. The arrival of cooler, dry northeasterly winds has replaced the relatively warmer easterlies, effectively pulling down the mercury. Residents are advised to enjoy the pleasant weather but also to take necessary precautions during the early mornings and late evenings when the chill is most pronounced. The IMD's forecast of a week-long cool spell offers a clear picture for people to plan their activities and wardrobes accordingly.
