Winter Chill Grips Bihar: Temperatures Drop, Fog and Winds Forecast
Bihar Winter Chill: Temps Drop, Fog Forecast

The state of Bihar ushered in the month of December with a distinct nip in the air as mercury levels plunged across various regions. The Patna Meteorological Centre has issued a forecast predicting colder mornings and evenings ahead, accompanied by light to moderate fog and brisk westerly winds. The distant influence of Cyclone Ditwah is expected to keep skies partly cloudy over the next few days.

Weather Details and Temperature Forecast

Patna and its neighbouring areas experienced partly cloudy conditions, with daytime temperatures hovering between 27°C and 28°C. The Met office anticipates dry weather to prevail across Bihar for the coming week. However, residents need to brace for reduced visibility as light to moderate fog is likely to form at isolated places during the early morning hours over the next two days. This could lead to hazardous driving conditions, urging commuters to exercise caution.

Adding to the winter feel, westerly winds are set to pick up speed in several parts of the state. These winds, gusting up to 30 kilometres per hour, will intensify the cold, particularly during the mornings and evenings. A weather official from the Patna Met office stated, "Maximum temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged for the next four to five days, staying in the comfortable range of 24°C to 28°C during the day."

Sharp Drop in Night Temperatures Expected

The significant change will be felt during the night. The official added, "However, a sharper drop is forecast for minimum temperatures, with a fall of 2–4°C expected across many parts of Bihar within the next 48 hours, after which night temperatures should stabilise." According to the detailed weather bulletin, most places, including south, north-west, and north-central Bihar, will record minimum temperatures between 10°C and 14°C in the coming days. This pattern will ensure warm and comfortable afternoons but noticeably colder mornings and nights.

Recent Weather Observations Across Bihar

Over the past 24 hours, the entire state remained dry with no rainfall reported from any district. The weather extremes recorded on Monday highlight the changing conditions:

  • The highest maximum temperature was 29.4°C at Forbesganj.
  • The lowest minimum temperature dipped to 11.8°C at Kishanganj.
  • Daytime temperatures across Bihar ranged from 25.6°C to 29.4°C.
  • Night temperatures varied between 11.8°C and 17.7°C.

Foggy conditions have already begun to impact parts of the state. Visibility in Purnia dropped to as low as 500 metres due to early-morning fog. Similar foggy conditions were reported in seven other districts of north Bihar, including Siwan, Gopalganj, and Bettiah, signalling the onset of the winter fog season.
