The villager, Upendra Kumar, aged 25, had taken his seven buffaloes to a nearby river for their routine bath when the attack unfolded. According to family members, a tiger suddenly attacked Kumar from behind without warning. Before he could even react to the assault, three of his buffaloes turned aggressively towards the predator.
The buffaloes' sudden and fierce resistance reportedly forced the tiger to retreat into the forest, saving Kumar from what could have been a far more serious outcome. Hearing his cries for help, local residents from nearby areas rushed to the scene to provide assistance.

Kumar was promptly taken to Gaunaha Referral Hospital for medical attention. Doctors examining him found a wound mark on his stomach, which they treated with first aid before allowing him to return home. His mother, Sugandhi Devi, recounted the terrifying experience, stating, "My son had taken the buffaloes to bathe them. A tiger attacked from behind. Our buffaloes attacked the tiger and forced it to flee."
Forest department officials have launched an investigation into the incident. Sunil Kumar Pathak, ranger of the Manguraha forest range, confirmed that a team reached the village after receiving information about the attack. Officials are currently examining footprints and other signs in the area to determine whether the attack was indeed carried out by a tiger or possibly another wild animal. In response to the incident, monitoring has been intensified in forest fringe villages as a precautionary measure.
