The India Meteorological Department has issued significant weather warnings for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, with Chennai expected to experience deteriorating conditions as the weekend approaches. According to the latest IMD bulletin released on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated across numerous locations in Tamil Nadu and the Puducherry-Karaikal regions. The weather authority has specifically identified multiple districts that will experience isolated rainfall, including Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, and Kanniyakumari among others.

The IMD has implemented a yellow warning across affected areas, alerting residents to potential hazards such as slippery roads, waterlogging, and possible traffic disruptions. The meteorological department emphasized that heavy rainfall is particularly likely in Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, and Theni districts.

Weather conditions in Chennai are projected to worsen significantly during the weekend period. The IMD forecasts that heavy rainfall will intensify across Chennai and surrounding districts starting from Saturday through Sunday.

The cloud cover is expected to increase substantially by Friday, setting the stage for more intense precipitation. The meteorological department specifically warned that heavy rain could occur at isolated places over Mayiladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villuppuram, Chengalpattu and Nagapattinam districts along with the Puducherry and Karaikal areas.
