Delhi Weather: Mercury to Drop to 8°C as IMD Predicts Dry Spell
Delhi Cold Wave: Temperature to Dip to 8°C

Delhi is set to experience a significant dip in temperatures, with the mercury expected to fall to a chilly 8 degrees Celsius in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a dry spell and moderate fog, offering no respite from the capital's persistently poor air quality.

IMD's Detailed Weather Forecast

According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, residents of the national capital woke up to a smog-covered morning on Monday, November 24, 2025. The weather agency has forecast a clear sky accompanied by moderate fog for the day.

The maximum temperature is likely to settle between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover in the range of 9 to 11 degrees Celsius. IMD specifically noted that minimum temperatures are likely to be below normal, ranging from -1.6 to -3.0 degrees below the seasonal average.

In its press release, IMD stated: "Shallow to Moderate fog during morning hours of 24-25th November 2025. Shallow fog during morning hours of 26th November 2025 and Shallow to moderate fog during morning hours thereafter."

Gradual Temperature Drop Expected

The weather agency predicts a gradual fall in minimum temperature by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over many parts of northwest India, including Delhi, over the next three days. The predominant surface wind in Delhi is likely to come from the northwest direction, with calm winds during the early morning hours.

Recent data shows Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10.4 degrees Celsius, which is a notch below the season's average. Looking ahead to the coming week, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature might stay between 8 and 11 degrees Celsius.

This prediction aligns with the season's average and comes after Delhi recorded its coldest November morning in three years. On November 17, the city's minimum temperature dropped to 8.7 degrees Celsius, nearly 3.6 notches below normal. The lowest minimum temperature for November in the last three years was 7.3 degrees Celsius, recorded on November 29, 2022.

Delhi's Persistent Air Quality Crisis

The air pollution situation in the national capital region remains grim, with Delhi recording 'Very Poor' air quality on Monday. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 396 at 7:00 AM.

The situation was even worse on Sunday, when a total of 20 monitoring stations across Delhi reported 'severe' air quality. The remaining 18 stations registered 'very poor' air quality with readings above 300.

As per the Air Quality Early Warning System's prediction, Delhi's air quality is likely to remain in the 'very poor' category until at least November 26. The combination of falling temperatures and deteriorating air quality poses a double challenge for Delhi's residents, with no immediate relief in sight from either weather conditions or pollution levels.
