Delhi Experiences Marginal Temperature Increase as IMD Predicts Wet Spell

New Delhi witnessed a marginal rise in maximum temperature on Saturday, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast very light rain. The weather department has now issued a yellow alert for Sunday, predicting a wet spell across large parts of northwest India, accompanied by gusty winds.

Temperature Details for Saturday

On Saturday, the maximum temperature at Safdarjung, Delhi's base station, was recorded at 33.6 degrees Celsius. This reading is one notch above the normal level and slightly higher than Friday's 32.6 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature settled at 18.8 degrees Celsius, which is close to normal and lower than Friday's 20.6 degrees Celsius.

IMD Forecast for Sunday and Beyond

According to IMD, Sunday's maximum temperature is expected to range between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius, with a minimum temperature hovering between 20 and 21 degrees Celsius. This indicates a marginal drop in daytime temperatures compared to Saturday.

The department has forecast very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. Gusts are predicted to reach up to 50 kmph on Sunday. Similar weather conditions are anticipated for Monday and Tuesday, with light to very light rain expected on both days.

Air Quality Remains Moderate

Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality stayed in the moderate category. The 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) at 4 pm on Saturday stood at 154, compared with 144 a day earlier. IMD expects the AQI to remain moderate over the next week, indicating no significant deterioration in air quality despite the changing weather patterns.
