Dust Storm Ravages Western Uttar Pradesh, Leaving Three Dead and Widespread Destruction

A severe dust storm swept through western Uttar Pradesh on Friday night, resulting in tragic loss of life and extensive property damage across several districts. The extreme weather event claimed at least three lives and left two individuals seriously injured, while causing significant harm to agricultural crops and residential structures.

Tragic Incidents Claim Lives in Kasganj and Mathura

In a heartbreaking incident in Kasganj district, four siblings were returning home after harvesting wheat around 10:45 pm when disaster struck. As they traveled near Nawada, strong winds snapped a jackfruit tree branch that fell directly onto their motorcycle. The victims have been identified as Shivsagar (24), Sanjeev (18), Aarti (22), and Sandhya (12).

According to SHO Ganjdundwara Radhe Shyam Singh, Sanjeev and Aarti succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while Sandhya and Shivsagar sustained serious wounds. In a separate tragedy in Mathura district, 43-year-old Pankaj Lal lost his life due to electrocution. During the storm in the Surir police station area, his vehicle collided with an electric pole that had fallen onto the roadway, resulting in fatal electrocution.

Widespread Agricultural Devastation Across Multiple Districts

The destructive storm formed part of a broader extreme weather system that impacted numerous rural areas of western Uttar Pradesh. Multiple regions experienced powerful winds accompanied by rain and hail, causing substantial damage to both standing and harvested crops.

Affected areas included:

  • Fatehpur Sikri
  • Kagarol
  • Fatehabad
  • Akola
  • Bichpuri
  • Kheragarh
  • Iradatnagar
  • Kiraoli

Beyond Agra district, similar destruction was reported in Naujheel, Kosi Kalan, Baldeo, Barsana, and surrounding regions. Kiraoli tehsil emerged as the worst-affected area, according to Agra District Magistrate Aravind Mallapa Bangari.

Government Response and Compensation Measures

The Mathura administration has initiated assistance programs for affected farmers, helping them register crop damage complaints through multiple channels. Farmers can utilize the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima App or contact the toll-free number 14447 to report losses.

District Magistrate Bangari confirmed that more than 10,000 applications have already been submitted for compensation, with officials actively assessing the extent of damage across affected regions. The administration has assured farmers that compensation will be processed and distributed appropriately once assessments are complete.

Agricultural Experts Assess Crop Damage

Agriculture specialists from the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Bichpuri have examined the storm's impact on local farming. Their assessment reveals that high-speed winds have lodged standing wheat crops, negatively affecting both yield potential and grain quality.

Vegetable crops have suffered particularly severe damage from hailstones, with significant losses reported for:

  1. Okra
  2. Bottle gourd
  3. Ridge gourd
  4. Maize
  5. Pumpkin
  6. Cucumber
  7. Tomato

Calls for Immediate Government Action

Farmer leaders and local representatives have urgently appealed to government authorities to conduct prompt damage surveys and release adequate compensation funds. They emphasize the need for swift intervention to help agricultural communities recover from this weather-related crisis and prevent further economic hardship.

The combination of human tragedy and agricultural devastation has created a challenging situation across western Uttar Pradesh, with recovery efforts now underway as communities assess the full extent of Friday night's destructive storm.
