Envision Racing Expands Climate Mission to India's Vulnerable Sundarbans Region

In a significant expansion of its environmental commitment, the Envision Racing Formula E team has launched a major new initiative under its Race Against Climate Change mission. After successfully planting thousands of trees in Madagascar, the team has now shifted its focus to the ecologically critical Sundarbans region in India, where it aims to plant approximately five lakh trees. This ambitious project is designed to remove substantial amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere while simultaneously protecting endangered species that inhabit this vulnerable area.

Drivers Buemi and Eriksson Champion the Sustainable Chain Initiative

The two Envision Racing drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Joel Eriksson, have become prominent voices for this environmental campaign. In a new video shared by the team on its Instagram platform, both drivers passionately explain the initiative's goals and progress. The video was posted with the caption: "Green light on the Sustainable Chain! Seb and Joel take you behind the scenes on our most ambitious mission yet. We're only a quarter of the way to our goal, and we're not lifting off the throttle until we hit 1 million trees planted. We've teamed up with Envision Energy India to protect the Sundarbans mangroves, linking your fan pledges directly to real-world impact."

Buemi elaborated on the program's origins, stating, "Sustainable Chain was launched back in 2021 as part of our Race Against Climate Change programme. Through this initiative, we encourage our fans to make more sustainable lifestyle choices to help the planet." He further explained the remarkable progress already achieved: "So far, our fans have made over 270,000 pledges. Each pledge is a commitment to make a lifestyle change that benefits the climate - for example, cycling to work. For every pledge, we planted a tree in Madagascar, meaning over 270,000 trees have been planted."

Protecting the Sundarbans Through Mangrove Restoration

The drivers emphasized that their environmental mission continues to accelerate. Buemi specifically addressed the critical importance of the Sundarbans region: "Our mission doesn't stop here. We are now aiming to plant 500,000 trees in the Sundarbans. By planting mangrove trees, we will help remove CO2 from the atmosphere and protect endangered species."

Eriksson provided additional context about the broader benefits of this initiative, explaining how the tree planting project will also support local communities by creating sustainable livelihoods and improving access to fresh water in the region. Together, the drivers issued a compelling call to action: "You can be part of this amazing project. Make a pledge on our website today and share it with a friend or family member. By doing this, you join the chain - the Sustainable Chain."

Racing Performance and Future Events

While championing environmental causes, both drivers continue to compete at the highest level of electric motorsport. Buemi currently holds ninth position in the Formula E Drivers' Standings with 43 points, having secured his first podium of the season with a second-place finish in Jeddah during Round 5. Eriksson occupies eleventh place with 19 points, with his best result being a fourth-place finish at the Miami E-Prix earlier this season.

The drivers will return to competitive racing next month for the Berlin E-Prix, scheduled to take place from May 1-3. Their dual commitment to racing excellence and environmental stewardship represents a powerful combination of sporting achievement and social responsibility.
