Ganga Dussehra Celebrated with Cleanliness Drive at Shultankeshwar Ghat
Varanasi: On the occasion of Ganga Dussehra, workers of Ganga Samagra assembled at Shultankeshwar Ghat early Tuesday morning to conduct a comprehensive cleanliness drive. The event began with the cleaning of the ghat, followed by a puja and aarti dedicated to Maa Ganga, symbolizing reverence for the holy river.
Regional organisation secretary Sanjay and Sah Prant Sanyojak Diwakar Dwivedi led the rituals, performing traditional ceremonies to mark the auspicious day. Addressing the gathering, Sanjay emphasized the critical importance of maintaining the cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga and its tributaries. He explained that these measures are essential for groundwater recharge and preserving ecological balance. Sanjay urged the volunteers to spread awareness in nearby villages, particularly discouraging the immersion of worship waste into the river, which poses a threat to its purity.
Diwakar Dwivedi instructed the workers to complete the formation of Khand teams and Ganga Gram committees in all districts before July 15. These committees are expected to play a pivotal role in local river conservation efforts. During the programme, participants took a solemn pledge to protect the Ganga, its tributaries, and the environment. They were also tasked with identifying suitable locations for a tree plantation drive in Kashi district, scheduled to run from Guru Purnima to Rakshabandhan. The plantation will focus on native species such as Peepal, Bargad, Pakad, Gular, and Neem trees, which are known for their ecological benefits.
The programme was presided over by Bhag Sanyojak Chandra Prakash, who commended the volunteers for their dedication and reiterated the organization's commitment to environmental stewardship. The event concluded with a collective resolve to continue efforts for the rejuvenation of the Ganga and its ecosystem.
