Violence Erupts at German Gurudwara: 11 Injured in Clash Involving Weapons
A major police operation was triggered in western Germany after violence broke out at a Gurudwara, with reports of weapons and gunfire during a clash involving dozens of people. The incident occurred in the town of Moers, where a dispute escalated into a large-scale altercation on Sunday, according to German media reports.
Details of the Violent Confrontation
Witnesses told German tabloid Bild that more than 40 individuals were involved in the confrontation. Some participants allegedly used knives, pepper spray, and even a firearm during the violent clash. At least 11 people were injured in the violence, with most suffering head wounds. Emergency responders treated the injured at the scene, while police detained at least one individual.
Investigators began collecting evidence, including shell casings that suggested a blank-firing pistol may have been used. Videos on social media showed a mass brawl with some individuals pulling out kirpans as the violence escalated dramatically.
Witness Accounts and Community Dispute
A witness claimed, "Some miscreants started attacking us. They were carrying weapons and fired on us. There were women and children inside." The same witness added, "After the Guru's fund got closed this group (the previous administration) went violent and started attacking."
German broadcaster WDR reported that the clash stemmed from a long-running internal dispute within the community, suggesting deeper tensions that had been building over time.
Police Response and Investigation
Officers sealed off the area completely, while a police helicopter hovered overhead during the extensive search operation. Authorities later confirmed that no armed suspect was found inside the premises despite the initial reports of weapons and gunfire.
The police operation involved multiple units responding to what was initially reported as an armed confrontation at the religious site. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine the exact sequence of events and identify all participants in the violent altercation.
