A severe heatwave has gripped Uttar Pradesh, with the Bundelkhand region recording a scorching 45.6 degrees Celsius. The mercury soared across the state, causing distress among residents.
Bundelkhand Sizzles at 45.6°C
The Bundelkhand region, known for its extreme temperatures, recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 45.6°C. Other parts of Uttar Pradesh also witnessed a sharp rise in temperatures, with several cities crossing the 44°C mark.
Heatwave Conditions to Persist
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts, warning that heatwave conditions are likely to continue for the next few days. Residents have been advised to take precautions and avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours.
Key areas affected:
- Bundelkhand: 45.6°C
- Lucknow: 44.2°C
- Kanpur: 44.8°C
- Varanasi: 43.5°C
The heatwave has also led to increased demand for electricity as air conditioners and coolers run at full capacity. Power outages have been reported in some areas, adding to the discomfort.
Authorities have set up water coolers and shelters in public places to provide relief. Hospitals have been put on alert to handle heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke and dehydration.
The IMD has predicted that temperatures may rise further in the coming days, with no immediate relief expected. Residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure.
