Rain and Thunderstorms Bring Relief to Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

In a significant weather shift, rain and thunderstorms have swept across parts of Assam, marking an end to months of dry conditions. Arunachal Pradesh also experienced heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours, providing much-needed respite from the prolonged dry spell.

IMD Issues Severe Weather Warnings

On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning, indicating that lightning, along with heavy to very heavy rain, is very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, heavy rain is expected at isolated locations over Assam in the next 24 hours, raising concerns for potential disruptions.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Guwahati, light to moderate rain occurred at many places, with isolated heavy falls reported over Arunachal Pradesh during the last day. The Met Office also noted hail measuring 5 mm in diameter at isolated areas over Meghalaya within the same period.

Regional Rainfall Patterns and Impacts

The RMC bulletin on Thursday detailed that light to moderate rain was observed at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya, and at isolated spots over Nagaland and Manipur. Light rain also occurred at a few locations over Mizoram and isolated areas over Tripura, indicating widespread precipitation across the northeastern region.

In terms of rainfall intensity, Tuting in Arunachal Pradesh recorded the highest amount at 9 cm in the last 24 hours, highlighting the severity of the downpour. Meanwhile, daytime temperatures have risen over Mizoram and Nagaland, while there was no significant change in temperatures over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.

Forecast for the Coming Days

For the next four days, the IMD has issued warnings of heavy rain and thunderstorms at various places across multiple northeastern states. The RMC specifically mentioned that Guwahati and its surrounding neighborhoods are likely to experience generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers over the next couple of days, advising residents to stay prepared for adverse weather conditions.

This weather event not only brings relief from the dry spell but also underscores the importance of monitoring meteorological updates for safety and planning purposes in the region.
