Himachal Pradesh Weather Update: Rain and Snow Forecast for High-Altitude Areas

The Shimla meteorological office has issued a weather forecast for Himachal Pradesh. They predict light rain or snow in isolated high-altitude areas from January 17 to 21. This includes regions like Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and the upper parts of Kullu and Mandi.

Western Disturbances to Impact Northwest India

Two western disturbances are likely to affect northwest India in quick succession. This activity will start from the night of January 19 and continue until January 21. The weather department expects these systems to bring light to moderate rain or snow to select mid- and high-hill areas.

On January 22, the affected areas will include Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, parts of Chamba such as Sihunta, Chowari, and Chamba, and most parts of Solan and Sirmaur. Precipitation is expected to intensify across most parts of the state on January 23.

Potential for Heavy Spells and Current Conditions

One or two spells of heavy rain or snow are also possible in isolated high-altitude locations on January 23. However, the meteorological office does not anticipate significant changes in minimum and maximum temperatures over the next five days.

Recent weather observations show that Lahaul and Spiti district experienced some snowfall. Hansa recorded 2.5 cm of snowfall, with traces also observed in Kukumseri and Keylong. The district received 1.3 mm of rainfall on Saturday. Tabo recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at -2.6 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

Residents and travelers in these regions should stay updated with the latest weather advisories. The forecast indicates a period of active weather, particularly in the high-altitude zones, which could impact daily activities and transportation.
