Hindu Trader Brutally Murdered Inside Shop in Bangladesh

In a shocking incident of violence, a 62-year-old Hindu trader was brutally hacked to death by unidentified assailants inside his shop in Bangladesh. The victim, identified as Susen Chandra Sarkar, was the owner of 'Bhai Bhai Enterprise' and a resident of Southkanda village in the Trishal upazila of Mymensingh district.

Details of the Tragic Attack

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Monday night at the Bogar Bazar intersection in the Upazila. Muhammad Firoz Hossain, the chief of Trishal Police Station, stated that the attackers used a sharp weapon to assault Sarkar, leaving him severely injured inside the shop before closing the shutters and fleeing the scene.

Sarkar's family, who had been searching for him, discovered the gruesome scene when they opened the shop shutters. They found him covered in blood and immediately rushed him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Tragically, doctors at the hospital declared him dead upon arrival.

Son's Heartbreaking Account and Demand for Justice

Sujan Sarkar, the victim's son, expressed profound grief and confusion over the attack. He revealed that the family had been running a rice business for a long time and had no known enmity with anyone. "The criminals stole several hundred thousand taka from the store after they brutally killed my father," Sujan stated, highlighting the possible motive behind the murder.

He vehemently demanded that the authorities identify his father's killers quickly and ensure they receive exemplary punishment. "We urge the police to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice," he added, echoing the concerns of many in the minority community.

Rising Communal Violence in Bangladesh

This murder is the latest in a series of violent incidents targeting the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. The situation has reportedly worsened since the killing of radical youth leader Sharif Osman Hadi in December 2025, leading to increased tensions.

Last month, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council raised alarms about the escalating communal violence as the country approaches its general elections. The Council documented 51 incidents of communal violence in December 2025 alone, indicating a troubling trend.

Bangladesh is set to hold parliamentary elections on February 12, marking the first vote since the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in massive protests in August 2024. According to the 2022 census, the Hindu population in Bangladesh is approximately 13.13 million, accounting for about 7.95% of the total population.

Broader Implications and Community Concerns

The attack on Susen Chandra Sarkar underscores the vulnerabilities faced by religious minorities in the region. Community leaders and activists are calling for enhanced security measures and stricter enforcement of laws to protect minority rights.

As investigations continue, the incident has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for peace and tolerance. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, urging Bangladeshi authorities to address communal violence and ensure the safety of all citizens.
