IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Gurgaon Amid Forecast of Thunderstorms and Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Gurgaon, warning residents of light to moderate rainfall expected over the next two days. This weather advisory comes as a western disturbance over the Himalayan region begins to impact weather conditions across Haryana, starting from Saturday night.
Weather Forecast Details and Expected Conditions
According to IMD officials, rainfall activity is anticipated to intensify from Sunday across Haryana, with isolated areas likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds. The forecast includes gusty winds with speeds ranging from 40 to 60 kilometers per hour, posing potential risks during the wet spell.
IMD has emphasized that the rain and cloud cover will lead to a noticeable drop in temperatures. Over the next two days, maximum temperatures are expected to decrease by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, providing some relief from the recent warmth.
Temperature Trends and Recent Observations
On Saturday, Gurgaon recorded a dip in minimum temperatures, reflecting the changing weather patterns. At the Gurgaon KVK station, the minimum temperature settled at 16.5°C, down from 18.5°C observed the previous day. Similarly, the NorthCap University monitoring station reported a minimum temperature of 17.9°C, a decline from 20.1°C recorded on Friday.
Despite the cooler starts, daytime temperatures showed an upward trend. The KVK station recorded a maximum temperature of 32.3°C, up from 30.6°C on Friday, while NorthCap University saw a high of 33.9°C, compared to 32.2°C the day before.
Statewide Weather Patterns and Safety Advisories
Across Haryana, the average maximum temperature has increased by 1.7°C but remains within the normal range. The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 34.7°C in Nuh. Officials have advised residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms due to the associated risks of lightning and strong winds.

- Not taking shelter under trees when lightning is present
