IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heatwave Across 12 Districts in Jharkhand

The Ranchi office of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for a heatwave affecting twelve districts in the state of Jharkhand, scheduled for Friday. This warning comes as daytime temperatures are projected to increase significantly over the coming days.

Temperature Rise and District-Specific Alerts

According to Abhishek Anand, scientist and deputy head of the Ranchi Met office, daytime temperatures are likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next five days. The yellow alert specifically targets Friday, with Ranchi among the districts under warning.

Contrasting Weather Patterns in Other Regions

In contrast to the dry forecast for the alerted districts, six districts in the northeastern part of Jharkhand may experience some precipitation. These districts—Godda, Sahibganj, Pakur, Deoghar, Dumka, and Jamtara—could receive up to 25% rainfall between Friday morning and Saturday morning, providing slight relief from the heat.

Recent Weather Conditions and Temperature Records

Dry weather has prevailed across Jharkhand from Sunday through Monday morning. Recent temperature recordings highlight the state's varying climate:

  • The highest maximum temperature of 39.8°C was recorded at Daltonganj.
  • The lowest minimum temperature of 16.8°C was observed at Gumla.
  • Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8°C and a minimum temperature of 20.2°C on Monday.
