Indore Grapples with Stark Day-Night Temperature Contrasts
The city of Indore is currently experiencing a remarkable meteorological phenomenon characterized by two distinctly different weather patterns within a single 24-hour cycle. Residents are facing strong, sunny afternoons that drive temperatures upward, while nights have become significantly cooler over recent days, creating a pronounced thermal divide.
Recent Temperature Measurements Reveal Significant Variations
On Sunday, meteorological data showed the maximum temperature reaching 31.4 degrees Celsius, which stands two degrees above the normal seasonal average for this period. By late afternoon at 5:30 PM, the mercury had settled at 27.8 degrees Celsius. However, the nighttime told a different story entirely, with the minimum temperature dropping to 11.5 degrees Celsius, marking one degree below normal levels.
Notably, the night temperature has decreased by 4.4 degrees over just the past four nights. For comparison, on February 12th, the minimum temperature was recorded at 15.9°C, indicating a substantial cooling trend in nocturnal conditions.
Weather Officials Explain the Temperature Dynamics
Meteorological officials reported that the maximum temperature recorded a day earlier was 31.5 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal, though slightly lower than the previous day's reading. During this same timeframe, the minimum temperature experienced a drop of 2.1 degrees compared to the preceding night, highlighting the increasing nighttime chill.
Weather experts attribute this significant decline in nighttime temperatures to two primary factors: recent snowfall in the hilly regions of northern India and the return of northerly winds to the region. These winds from the north-east have been blowing at speeds reaching up to 15 kilometers per hour, bringing a distinct chill during the late-night and early-morning hours that contrasts sharply with the daytime warmth.
The Growing Temperature Divide and Future Forecast
Currently, Indore is experiencing an unusually wide temperature gap of nearly 20 degrees between daytime highs and nighttime lows. While afternoon temperatures regularly cross the 31-degree mark, nighttime readings hover close to 11 degrees within just a few hours, creating challenging conditions for residents who must adapt to both warm days and cool nights.
The weather department has forecast changes ahead, predicting a rise in both daytime and nighttime temperatures starting from February 16th onward. Daytime temperatures are likely to climb to between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures may increase to a range of 15 to 17 degrees Celsius in the coming days, potentially reducing the current extreme temperature differential.
