A fresh spell of intense rainfall accompanied by a severe hailstorm continued to disrupt normal life across Kanpur on Sunday evening, compounding the impact of stormy conditions that had already struck the region just a day earlier. The adverse weather was not confined to urban centers, as rural pockets throughout the district also experienced strong winds, heavy rain, and intense hailfall.
Agricultural Catastrophe Unfolds in Chaubepur and Surrounding Areas
In Chaubepur and nearby regions, the sudden and violent hailstorm caused extensive and devastating damage to agricultural crops, raising serious and immediate concerns among the farming community. Standing wheat and gram crops, which were fully matured and ready for harvest, were reportedly completely destroyed due to the relentless hail. Recently sown moong and urad pulse crops also suffered significant damage, compounding the agricultural crisis.
Vegetable cultivation took a particularly major hit, with critical crops such as tomato, capsicum, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, cucumber, muskmelon, and pumpkin being severely and adversely affected. This widespread destruction threatens both local food supplies and the economic livelihoods of countless farmers who depend on these harvests.

The district had already endured stormy and disruptive conditions on Saturday evening, followed by a brief period of clear skies on Sunday morning. The India Meteorological Department has issued another critical alert, warning of continued rain activity over the next 48 hours, which has further heightened anxiety among farmers and residents alike. Weather expert Dr. SN Sunil Pandey explained that, according to current forecasts, cloud movement is expected to increase significantly along with intermittent sunshine across the Kanpur division. Day temperatures may continue to experience considerable fluctuations, while night temperatures could rise slightly due to persistent cloud cover. Wind speeds may reach up to 15 kmph during the evening hours, adding to the hazardous conditions.
Dr. Pandey further attributed these unstable meteorological conditions to a fresh western disturbance active in the region. He specifically warned that on April 6, strong winds, thundercloud activity, light rain, and potential hailstorm are likely in isolated areas, indicating that the weather crisis may not be over.
