Keshod Emerges as Gujarat's Coldest Location with 8.1°C Night Temperature
Keshod town near the forested Junagadh district became the coldest place in Gujarat on Thursday night. The mercury dipped to 8.1°C, making residents bundle up against the winter chill.
Multiple Locations Experience Significant Temperature Drops
Kandla Airport closely followed Keshod with a temperature of 8.6°C. Naliya, which traditionally holds the title of Gujarat's coldest spot, recorded 9.2°C. Amreli saw some relief after Wednesday night's plunge to around 5.5°C, settling at 9.4°C on Thursday. This reading remained 2.4°C below normal for the area.
Dahod emerged as the third coldest location with nighttime temperatures reaching 9.7°C. The cold wave affected daily routines across the state.
Morning Routines Disrupted by Winter Chill
Parks and walking tracks witnessed morning walkers briskly rubbing their palms together. Cold air clung persistently to early morning hours. Children struggled to leave their warm blankets for school. Many residents wrapped themselves tightly in woolens to combat the dropping temperatures.
Roadside tea kiosks provided welcome warmth. People found comfort in steam rising from kettles before sipping their hot beverages. The simple pleasure of a warm drink became particularly valuable during this cold spell.
Major Cities Record Their Coldest Nights
According to India Meteorological Department data, Rajkot and Vadodara experienced their coldest nights on Wednesday. Rajkot recorded 11.3°C while Vadodara reached 11.8°C. Daytime sunshine offered some comfort, but evening chill settled quickly across most locations.
Day temperatures remained normal to slightly below normal throughout Gujarat. Dwarka enjoyed the most pleasant daytime conditions with maximum temperatures of 25.4°C. Surat recorded the highest daytime temperature at 34.8°C.
Coastal Areas Show Temperature Variations
The picturesque coastal town of Diu experienced cold nights with temperatures dropping to 10.3°C. Daman in south Gujarat remained warmer at 15.4°C. These variations highlighted how different regions experienced the winter conditions differently.
IMD Analysis and Weather Forecast
The IMD bulletin provided detailed analysis of temperature patterns across Gujarat. Minimum temperatures remained above normal in parts of North Gujarat. Saurashtra-Kutch regions recorded below-normal temperatures. The rest of the state experienced near-normal conditions.
The weather forecast brings promising news for those tired of the cold. Easterly to southeasterly winds are currently blowing over Gujarat. These winds carry relatively warmer air from the sea. This development may slightly reduce nighttime cold in coming days, particularly in coastal areas.
Residents can expect gradual temperature improvements as these maritime winds continue their influence. The relief will be especially noticeable in regions closest to the coastline.
