Kolkata Sees Minimal Rainfall Amid Cloudy Skies, Thunderstorm Warning in Effect

On Monday evening, the sky over Kolkata was shrouded in clouds, yet the city managed to avoid significant precipitation, recording only a minor drizzle throughout the day. However, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata has issued a cautionary note, indicating that thunderstorms could still develop in Kolkata and various districts of south Bengal until Wednesday.

Met Office Forecasts Continued Cloudiness and Light Rain

Meteorologist HR Biswas, who heads the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata, stated, "We will continue to encounter some cloudiness. The possibility of light rain in Kolkata is there till Wednesday." This announcement underscores the unpredictable nature of the current weather pattern, which is being influenced by southerly and south-westerly wind systems prevalent in the region.

While Kolkata remained largely dry, other areas such as Bankura and Purulia experienced light to moderate rainfall, highlighting the localized impact of the weather system. The day began with sunny conditions, but by Monday afternoon, clouds began to accumulate over the city, leading to a noticeable drop in temperature.

Temperature Fluctuations and Future Predictions

The cloud cover caused the maximum temperature in Kolkata to decrease to 30.4°C on Monday, down from 31.4°C the previous day. This reading was 2.6 degrees below the normal range, while the minimum temperature of 23.9°C was 2.2 degrees above normal, reflecting a slight warming trend at night.

Met officials have projected that temperatures will remain relatively stable over the next three days, with no significant variations expected. However, they anticipate a gradual increase in mercury levels thereafter. This forecast comes in the wake of a recent spike, where the day temperature reached 33.1°C on March 3, marking the highest recorded so far this year.

Residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and prepare for potential thunderstorm activity, as the region navigates this period of climatic uncertainty.
