Kolkata Weather Forecast: Extended Warm Spell with Temperatures Rising to 36°C

The city of Kolkata experienced warm and humid conditions on Saturday, with the maximum temperature reaching 33.6°C. According to the latest update from the Regional Meteorological Centre, this trend is set to continue, with temperatures potentially climbing even higher in the coming days.

Temperature Projections for the Week Ahead

The Met office has indicated that the mercury could rise further, touching 35°C on Sunday. Over the next week, temperatures are expected to gradually increase, hovering around 35°C to 36°C. This prolonged warm spell is attributed to the absence of any significant weather systems in the region.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 23.6°C, adding to the overall humidity and discomfort. Weather scientist Sourish Bandopadhyay from the Regional Meteorological Centre provided detailed insights into the forecast.

Dry Conditions Predicted Across South Bengal

Bandopadhyay stated, "It will remain largely dry and warm across south Bengal over the next seven days. Chances of rain or thunderstorms are low. A few areas may receive localised thundershowers, but they are likely to be mild and few."

He further added that while the warm spell could potentially be broken after a week, there are currently no specific indications of such a change. This suggests that residents should prepare for sustained high temperatures and minimal relief from precipitation.

Recent Weather Patterns and Historical Context

This upcoming heatwave follows a brief respite earlier in the month. The season's first scorching spell, which saw temperatures shoot up to 36.1°C last Saturday, was interrupted by multiple thunderstorms and rain in Kolkata between April 5 and 9. These weather events brought the mercury down by several notches, providing temporary relief from the heat.

However, with the current forecast pointing towards a return to elevated temperatures, Kolkata is bracing for another extended period of warm weather. The combination of high temperatures and humidity is likely to impact daily life, prompting advisories for residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

As the city navigates this warm phase, monitoring updates from the Met office will be crucial for planning outdoor activities and ensuring safety during the heatwave.
