Kolkata Weather Update: Stable Conditions with Gradual Warming Expected
On Thursday, Kolkata experienced a slight dip in maximum temperature alongside an increase in minimum temperature, according to meteorological observations. Weather officials indicate that apart from minor fluctuations, temperatures will continue to hover around normal levels for at least the next week, with no abrupt surges expected in the mercury readings.
Temperature Details and Daily Variations
The maximum temperature recorded on Thursday was 28.8° Celsius, showing a slight decrease from Wednesday's reading of 29.2° Celsius, which was close to the 30° mark. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature climbed from 15.6° Celsius the previous day to 16.9° Celsius on Thursday. Both day and night temperatures remained slightly below the normal seasonal averages for Kolkata.
Sources from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata explained that while the city continues to receive cold and dry north-westerly winds, this atmospheric system lacks sufficient power to significantly lower temperatures. This is primarily due to increasing solar insulation in the regions from which these winds originate and flow into the city.
Weekly Forecast and Seasonal Patterns
For Friday and Saturday, meteorologists expect maximum temperatures around 29° Celsius and minimum temperatures around 17° Celsius. Starting Sunday, both day and night temperatures are likely to increase by approximately one degree each, resulting in slightly warmer conditions during both daytime and nighttime hours.
An official from the Alipore weather office clarified, "Even if the maximum temperature reaches 30° Celsius, it will remain around the normal mark for those particular days. This gradual warming tendency is seasonal and expected. Since the mercury rise will be gradual rather than abrupt, we can anticipate pleasant weather conditions to persist for now."
The official further noted that Winter 2025-26 was particularly notable in Kolkata due to sustained cold feelings that began during the second week of December, creating one of the most favorable winter seasons in recent memory for city residents.
This weather stability comes amid various local developments including airline industry discussions, political exchanges between TMC and BJP representatives, court proceedings providing relief in certain matters, and ongoing election preparation activities across the region.
