Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday unveiled a comprehensive development plan worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore for Bengaluru, aimed at transforming the city's infrastructure and digital governance. The announcement was made during a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, where the CM highlighted key initiatives to address urban challenges.
Digitalisation of property records
Shivakumar stressed that Bengaluru's property records have been fully digitalised, a move expected to streamline land transactions and reduce disputes. "This digitalisation will bring transparency and efficiency to property management," he said. The initiative covers over 20 lakh properties across the city.
Infrastructure and transport projects
The plan includes Rs 50,000 crore for metro expansion, new flyovers, and road widening projects. Another Rs 30,000 crore is allocated for water supply and sewage treatment plants. The CM said these projects will be completed within five years, creating thousands of jobs.
Focus on sustainable growth
Shivakumar emphasised the need for sustainable urban development, with Rs 15,000 crore earmarked for green spaces and renewable energy. "Bengaluru must balance growth with environmental conservation," he added. The plan also includes smart traffic management systems and electric vehicle infrastructure.
Reactions and implementation
Industry leaders welcomed the announcement, with NASSCOM stating it will boost Bengaluru's status as a global tech hub. The opposition criticised the lack of a clear timeline, but the CM assured quarterly reviews. The plan will be funded through state budgets, central grants, and public-private partnerships.
