Ludhiana: Marking World Environment Day, the Philanthropy Club, in collaboration with the district administration and the Municipal Corporation (MC), organized Ploggers Drive 2.0 across the city on Thursday. The event commenced at 5:30 am, with participants covering over 25 routes and collecting plastic waste, which was later deposited at the MC point near Rose Garden.
Extensive Participation
Around 35 NGOs, schools, colleges, and corporate groups joined the drive, demonstrating a collective commitment to environmental conservation. Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and MC Commissioner Dr. Neeru Katyal flagged off the teams, emphasizing the importance of public participation in protecting the environment.
Key Areas Covered
Organizers reported that teams collected waste from major areas, including Sarabha Nagar, Model Town, and Dugri. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about plastic pollution and encourage sustainable practices among citizens.
Additional Activities
The event also featured a nukkad natak (street play), a yoga session, and an eco fair promoting sustainable living. These activities highlighted the multifaceted approach to environmental education and community engagement.
