Maharashtra Experiences Notable Temperature Drop After Rainy Spell

Following days of persistent rainy conditions, a significant cooling trend has swept across Maharashtra, offering a brief respite from the early April heatwave. Both daytime and nighttime temperatures have dipped noticeably, bringing relief to residents weary of the unseasonal warmth.

Pune Records Substantial Cooling in Key Areas

In Pune, specific locations have documented marked decreases in temperature. Shivajinagar registered a minimum temperature of 18.1°C, while the National Defence Academy area was even cooler at 17.3°C. Daytime highs across the city remained subdued, with maximum temperatures hovering between 33°C and 34°C at most stations, representing a clear decline from the hotter days experienced recently. Lohegaon recorded a slightly higher maximum of approximately 36.6°C, indicating some variability within the urban zone.

Statewide Cooling Trend Evident Across Maharashtra

The cooling phenomenon extended throughout the state, with Mahabaleshwar recording the lowest minimum temperature at 17.2°C. In contrast, Solapur remained among the hottest areas with a high of 38.2°C. Many stations in Madhya Maharashtra observed maximum temperatures that were 1 to 4 degrees below normal levels. Nashik experienced a particularly significant drop, with a daytime temperature of 32.4°C, which is 8 degrees below the typical average for this period.

IMD Forecast Predicts Stable Conditions with Gradual Warming

The India Meteorological Department provided a local forecast for Pune, indicating mainly clear to partly cloudy skies. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 36°C and 18°C respectively on Sunday. In its regional outlook, the IMD stated that there will be no large change in maximum temperatures over Maharashtra for the next four days, followed by a gradual increase of 2 to 3 degrees. Minimum temperatures are anticipated to fall slightly by 1 to 3 degrees until Sunday, before rising again by a similar margin. However, over the Vidarbha region, both maximum and minimum temperatures are projected to see little change in the coming days.

Expert Analysis Links Dip to Weather System Movement

Independent weather forecaster Abhijit Modak attributed the temperature dip to the movement of a recent weather system. He explained that as the western disturbance moves away, clearer skies and north-easterly winds will facilitate further cooling. Minimum temperatures in Pune could potentially fall on Sunday and Monday. Modak added that from around April 10, typical summer conditions are likely to return, with maximum temperatures climbing to 38-40°C, especially in eastern parts such as Lohegaon.

Short-Lived Relief Expected as Temperatures Set to Rise

An IMD official cautioned that the cooling may be temporary, noting that minimum temperatures are likely to stabilize around 18°C with only minor fluctuations of 1 to 2 degrees. Both day and night temperatures are expected to rise gradually over the next few days. The official also confirmed that no significant rainfall is expected over Pune for at least the next three to four days, with largely clear conditions prevailing across the region.
