Heavy monsoon rains have once again exposed the inadequate drainage infrastructure in Rewari, as the city and surrounding areas experienced severe waterlogging on July 8, 2026. According to official data, Rewari block received 69 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8 am on July 8, while Palhawas and Dharuhera recorded 45 mm and 33 mm respectively.
Waterlogging Disrupts Daily Life
Several parts of Rewari city, including markets, underpasses, and low-lying areas, turned into virtual ponds within hours of the downpour. Commuters faced knee-deep water, and many vehicles broke down while crossing inundated roads. The railway underpass near Naiwali Chowk was submerged, and rainwater entered shops in the main market and houses in low-lying areas.
The waterlogging situation was widely shared on social media, with many residents posting videos and experiences. Local socio-political activist Satish Yadav posted a live video on Facebook from a waterlogged colony, stating, "The residents do not know which door to knock on in the prevailing situation as their representatives are indifferent to the plight of the common people and remain engrossed in their ego clashes and protocol issues."
Power Outages and Infrastructure Woes
The rain also caused power outages, disrupting the supply of drinking water. Ongoing construction work on Railway Road worsened conditions for residents and commuters. Even posh localities such as Model Town experienced severe waterlogging. The premises of the local Civil Hospital also turned into a pool of water, causing great inconvenience to patients.
Resident Shalini Mehta remarked, "Rain did bring respite from the heatwave, but the resultant waterlogging, power outages and damage to roads created multifarious problems for residents. As always, the preparations made to prevent such issues remained confined to paper."
Residents Express Frustration
Shopkeeper Abhay Malik lamented that it was not the first time rain had caused chaos in the city. "Merely an hour or two of rainfall is enough to expose the hollow promises of local legislators and administrative officers. Their attitude towards the suffering of the people is apathetic," he said.
