The Forest Department of Himachal Pradesh recently conducted a tree plantation drive in Narkanda, located in the Shimla district, with the objective of bolstering environmental protection and advancing the state's vision of a greener future. A total of 80 saplings, including Deodar and Khanor species, were planted during the initiative.
Inauguration and Participation
The event was inaugurated by Rampur Sessions Judge Madan Kumar and Senior Civil Judge Ajay Thakur, who also serves as the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). The drive saw enthusiastic participation from students of local educational institutions, members of women's groups, youth organisations, and residents of the area.
Key Messages from Dignitaries
Addressing the gathering, Judge Madan Kumar emphasised the urgency of environmental conservation. “Tree plantation is not merely a formality, it is a collective responsibility towards safeguarding the future of coming generations,” he stated. He urged participants to regularly care for the planted saplings and ensure their protection until they mature. He also appealed to students and local residents to spread awareness about environmental conservation and transform the initiative into a mass movement.
Judge Ajay Thakur highlighted that a clean and healthy environment is not only a fundamental right of every citizen but also a shared responsibility. He stressed that the goal of environmental protection can be achieved only through large-scale plantation and proper care of trees.
Commitment to Environmental Stewardship
At the conclusion of the programme, participants took a pledge to protect the environment and committed themselves to nurturing and safeguarding the newly planted saplings. The event aligns with the Himachal Pradesh government's ongoing efforts to promote afforestation and combat climate change through community involvement.
