Odisha Experiences Significant Temperature Drop

The state of Odisha witnessed a remarkable dip in nighttime temperatures, with the hill station of G.Udayagiri in Kandhamal district recording a chilling 8.4°C on Monday. This marks the first instance this season where the minimum temperature has fallen below the 10°C threshold anywhere in the state.

Regional Temperature Variations

According to the latest IMD report, Phulbani registered the second lowest temperature at 11°C, showing considerable cooling across the region. The state capital, Bhubaneswar, experienced a significant temperature decline, recording a minimum of 14.8°C, which represents a substantial 5.8°C drop from normal seasonal expectations.

Jharsuguda demonstrated the most dramatic temperature deviation in the state, recording 11.3°C that translated to a 6.3°C drop from normal levels. The IMD bulletin highlighted that minimum temperatures observed an appreciable fall of approximately 2°C to 4°C at selected locations across interior Odisha districts and several places in south coastal pockets.

Weather Forecast and Implications

The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that minimum temperatures are likely to fall further by 2°C to 3°C during the next two days across Odisha. This continuing temperature decline signals the onset of colder weather patterns in the region.

The gradual dip in night temperatures across multiple parts of the state suggests the beginning of the winter season proper, with interior regions experiencing more pronounced effects compared to coastal areas. Residents across affected districts are advised to prepare for cooler conditions in the coming days.
