Mapusa: Pre-monsoon rainfall on Sunday led to severe waterlogging on Mandrem road at Junaswada in Mandrem, leaving motorists stranded and triggering chaos among residents. The deluge served as a stark warning of what lies ahead for the area if drainage issues remain unaddressed.
Locals Blame Haphazard Construction
Residents attribute the recurring crisis to unplanned construction activities. They claim that stone fences erected alongside the road are choking natural water outlets. A local resident complained that building construction next to the road, along with the stone walls, is blocking the natural flow of water into the drainage system. They urged the authorities to come up with a permanent solution to prevent such incidents in the future.
Authorities Swing Into Action
Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar and sarpanch Kiran Sawant mobilized emergency teams to clear blockages and drain accumulated water. Their prompt action successfully restored traffic flow on the affected road. Arolkar stated, 'Public service is our priority. We urge owners to cooperate in water drainage efforts to ensure safety.' The incident highlights the urgent need for improved drainage infrastructure in the region.
