Rain Disrupts Life in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri, Waterlogging Hits

Continuous rainfall from Wednesday night left several low-lying areas of the twin cities Yamunanagar and Jagadhri waterlogged on Friday, July 10, 2026, disrupting normal life and creating difficulties for commuters, students, and residents.

Waterlogged Roads and Underpasses

Water accumulated on several roads, making it difficult for commuters to move around. Some underpasses were also flooded, causing inconvenience to motorists and leading to traffic disruptions. Many roads in residential colonies remained submerged on Friday, with water collecting outside houses and creating difficulties especially for elderly people, women, and children.

School students and office-goers were forced to face traffic congestion and slow-moving vehicles while commuting. Two-wheeler riders had to navigate waterlogged roads cautiously. Complaints were received about vehicles breaking down after passing through flooded stretches. Traffic movement was disrupted, forcing commuters and pedestrians to wade through waterlogged streets.

Affected Areas

A number of areas, including Jammu Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Vijay Colony, Jaswant Colony, Azad Nagar, Dashmesh Colony, Old Hamida, near Swami Vivekanand Public School (near Sector-17, Jagadhri), and several other places witnessed waterlogging, submerged roads, and lanes. Many parents chose not to send their children to school due to flooded roads.

The rain also affected local business activities, especially street vendors and small shopkeepers, as customer footfall declined due to the wet weather.

Residents Express Disappointment

Residents of the twin cities expressed disappointment over the preparations made by the Municipal Corporation to solve the problem of waterlogging by cleaning drains and taking other steps. They said that every year, authorities of the Municipal Corporation claim to clean drains and strengthen the drainage system before the monsoon, but rain once again has revealed the shortcomings.

Municipal Corporation on High Alert

On the other hand, the Municipal Corporation administration remained on high alert. Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad worked in the field with officials to drain out water from waterlogged areas. Officials and employees remained in the field throughout the day and night working to drain out water from waterlogged areas and clean drains.

The Municipal Commissioner inspected the city’s drainage system amid the rain. He visited various sensitive areas, including ditch drains, to assess the drainage situation. He said that municipal teams were continuously cleaning drains and sewers to allow rainwater to drain out quickly.
