Rain Activity to Ease in Andhra Pradesh as Northeast Monsoon Withdraws
The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast indicating that rain activity will ease in Andhra Pradesh. The northeast monsoon is set to withdraw over the next two days, bringing relief to the region.
Favorable Conditions for Monsoon Cessation
An IMD bulletin states that conditions are becoming favorable for the cessation of monsoon rains. This change affects several areas including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and adjoining regions of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka.
The bulletin specifically highlights coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema districts. These areas recorded good rainfall throughout 2025.
Record Rainfall Performance in 2025
Both coastal and Rayalaseema districts experienced overall excess precipitation during the year. This occurred because both the southwest and northeast monsoons performed exceptionally well.
During the northeast monsoon season from October to December 2025, Andhra Pradesh received 357.6 mm of rainfall. This figure represents a significant surplus compared to the normal 287.2 mm, amounting to a 25% increase.
The southwest monsoon period from June to September 2025 also saw positive results. The state registered 530.9 mm of rainfall, slightly above the normal 521.6 mm.
The combined performance of both monsoon seasons ensured normal rainfall for the entire year. This outcome has benefited agriculture and water resources across the state.
Weather Forecast for Coming Days
The IMD predicts dry weather over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema for the next six days. Some isolated pockets of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may experience fog or mist for two days.
Minimum temperatures are expected to remain steady across coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema between January 17 and 20. This stability in temperature adds to the overall weather pattern shift.
Residents can anticipate clearer skies and reduced rainfall as the monsoon withdraws. The easing of rain activity marks a transition in the seasonal weather cycle.
