Rajasthan Braces for Fresh Thunderstorms and Hailstorms After Recent Unseasonal Weather
Even as Rajasthan gradually recovers from a recent spell of rain and hailstorms, large portions of the state continue to record temperatures significantly below normal levels, with predominantly dry conditions prevailing across most regions. The Meteorological Centre in Jaipur has now issued fresh weather alerts, warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, and hailstorms across several districts between April 6 and 8.
Current Temperature Scenario Across Rajasthan
In terms of maximum temperatures recorded on Sunday, Barmer emerged as the hottest location in the state at just over 35°C, which remains notably below the typical seasonal average for this period. It was closely followed by Jawai Dam at 34.2°C, Kota at 34°C, and both Jodhpur and Dungarpur registering 33.3°C.
Other major cities also experienced subdued daytime temperatures:
- Jaisalmer: 32.9°C
- Churu: 32.1°C
- Bikaner: 31.4°C
- Sikar: 30.5°C
The state capital, Jaipur, recorded a maximum temperature of 32.2°C and a minimum of 21.8°C on Sunday. Despite cloudy conditions prevailing, the city reported no rainfall over the past 24 hours.
Rainfall Activity and Official Observations
Rainfall activity across Rajasthan remained largely negligible, with Sriganganagar recording the only significant precipitation—a lone spell measuring 1.8 mm. An official from the Jaipur Meteorological Office provided crucial insights into the current weather patterns.
"An average dip of 6°C in both minimum and maximum temperatures was witnessed across the state," the official stated. "No location experienced heat wave conditions, and the weather remained predominantly pleasant throughout Rajasthan."
Detailed Weather Forecast and Alert Details
The Meteorological Office anticipates a strong western disturbance becoming active starting April 6, which is expected to impact multiple regions including Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Ajmer divisions, along with the Shekhawati area. These regions may experience:
- Thunderstorms with intense electrical activity
- Wind gusts reaching speeds of 40-50 kilometers per hour
- Light to moderate rainfall
- Isolated hailstorms in vulnerable areas
Weather activity is forecast to intensify further on April 7, with Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota divisions likely to experience more severe conditions including thunderstorms and dust storms. Winds during this period may reach 50-60 kmph, accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall and hailstorms at isolated locations.
On April 8, light to moderate rainfall is expected over northern and eastern parts of Rajasthan, while most other regions will remain predominantly dry. The Meteorological Office has indicated that weather conditions in Rajasthan should stabilize beginning April 9, with dry conditions prevailing across most areas for the subsequent 3-4 days.
Broader Weather Context and Implications
The continued below-normal temperatures across Rajasthan represent a significant departure from typical seasonal patterns. While the absence of heat wave conditions has provided relief to residents, the forecasted thunderstorms and hailstorms between April 6-8 require preparedness measures, particularly in the identified vulnerable divisions.
Agricultural communities, transportation networks, and local administrations in the affected regions are advised to monitor weather updates closely and implement necessary precautions ahead of the anticipated severe weather episodes.
